how to transition a dress from winter to spring

being on a small budget, i am all about buying pieces that are transitional between seasons. dresses are a great and easy piece to transition. again, it's ALL about the styling.

below is a new dress from madewell. i love the bright bold blue color and the soft, scuba material of it. it's flattering on many body types and extremely transitional between seasons.

Silhouette Dress

when wearing this dress for the cold days - think layers. sweaters, scarves, tights, boots, and jackets.

for the warmer days that are approaching, think light layers - anything that can be taken off for warmer rays and replaced for chilly nights.  also, think accessories - this dress just begs for them.

winter white

everyone has heard, " no whites after labor day or before memorial day." this is entirely not true. i'm all about breaking fashion rules, and this is certainly one of the rules that needs to be broken! winter white was all over the golden globes. here are some great examples:

anne hathaway // chanel

michelle dockery // alexandre vauthier

amanda seyfriend // givenchy

lea michele // elie saab

hayden panettiere // roberto cavalli

and i also have seen it over pinterest

so when dressing in all white, the primary color should be (obviously) white. in order to break it up, pair with other neutral accessories (think light beige and light taupe).

here are some of my favorite winter pieces that are available now in stores!

Silk Tuxedo Tunic

Double-cloth lady day coat with Thinsulate®

Toothpick jean in white denim
